Chalet Margaritka had two groups of new guests for New Year. The Boyle family (Tamsin, Martin, Joseph and Laura) and Olli’s Finnish Flyers (Olli plus Outa, Mika and Marianna). Conditions were great and everyone enjoyed the vast expanse of skiing that was available at this time of year with all links around the PDS being open. Alas, the flaring up of an old war wound prevented the erstwhile ski host from joining with the Boyles on a first trek this Winter to Morgins and the fantastic Cafe des Sports! The guys seemed to have a great day’s skiing anyway and really enjoyed the recommended Vin/ Chocolate Chaud and lunch stops. It does seem they had to ski like the wind to get the connection out of Les Crosets back to Avoriaz having left lunch in Morgins at just before 1500! But, the guys could really ski!!!
I know this cos I did manage to get out one day with some of them allowing us to experience the new 6 man Ranfoilly chair in the Rosta Sector of Les Gets. This really does give you a sensation of ‘flying like the wind’ and will make all the difference during the busy periods!!!
The Finns seemed addicted to the chalet’s sauna before dinner and brought their own traditional custom of rolling in the deep snow that surrounded the chalet to cool off in between the many warming sessions. The evenings saw a great table football tournament spontaneously take off – with everyone getting involved after dinner most nights. And, New Year’s Eve was well celebrated with appropriate fancy dress being worn by the Boyles and a Magnum of Champagne presented by Olli’s Flying Finns for consumption on the balcony as we watched the many firworks being let off across the valley at Midnight. This is always very picturesque!!! And, the champagne went down very well too!
Here’s a selection of the photos so you can share some of the experiences:
